Breguet was founded in 1775 by Abraham-Louis Breguet (1747-1823), Bregeut was born in Switzerland but worked mostly in Paris, France.
Breguet was a pioneer and inventor; he created self-winding pertetual watches, gongs for repeaters (replacing bells) and devised many other contributions that improved the accuracy of watches. His timepieces and clocks were sold to Louis XVI, Queen Marie-Antoinette and Napolean. In 1801, Breguet patented the legendary tourbillon escapement.
The blue ’pomme’ apple-shaped hands, know as the Breguet hands, together with fluting on the edge case are still a feature of current Breguet watches. Each Breguet watch has a unique number on its dial.
Today the company is part of the Swatch Group and are based in Switzerland. They also manufacture jewellery and wirting instruments.
